Motoring
Having been brought up with family cars of a Morris 8 convertable, Austin A35 (OOH 398), Mini saloon (1907 HE) & Mini Clubman (WNU 739K) estate I started off with a mini van (KRB 147J) and followed that with three Mini saloons (FOR 429K, RRA 998M & BHE 440T).Then came the change to an MG Midget (WWG 663T). Quickly came to realise that the Midget was rather undergeared so changed to an MGB roadster in 1984 (NMD 343R) which I still have today.
There have been various other cars involved too, once when I was rebuilding the engine on the MGB my work car share partner of the time had a piston exit the block so we bought a very fast Ford Cortina between us and sold it quickly once we had our own cars back on the road! A couple of years later the MG needed major body repairs so I owned a Skoda Estelle for a while (great car by the way!).
In 1994 as a family car we bought a Land Rover Discovery (M33 KLE), the MG was 'retired' for a couple of years while we rebuilt my then wifes Singer Chamois, during this time we briefly owned a Fiat Uno used for going up and down to work along the M4. Sold the Uno and got the MGB back on the road.
In 2003 we decided on a lifestyle change, I resigned from work, we sold our house in Reading and bought a motorhome to tour round Europe for a year, the MGB and Chamois going into storage and the Discovery being used by a relative!
After returning from Europe and settling in Chesterfield the two classics remained in storage, the motorhome was sold and the Discovery being used solely.
In 2015 I bought a Citroen Berlingo (transferred the reg M33 KLE) which I can get bikes inside and two on the roof!
Having converted a couple of sheds into a garage at home I returned to my roots and bought a 1991 Mini Cooper! Following a decision to go to the Le Mans Classic in 2022 and the MGB not serviceable I bought a 1973 MG Midget too.
